Diane Marshall

Diane Marshall

After taking pottery classes as a teenager, Diane has continued to develop her ceramic skills through evening classes, despite having to juggle with the demands of a career in International Banking. When she moved to London she was fortunate to study at Morley College with some amazing tutors, but as she moved further out from London, it became more difficult to find challenging ceramics classes rather than those aimed at the beginner. Eventually she decided to build her own studio in a lovely setting on the banks of the Basingstoke Canal in Surrey, with canal barges, swans and waterfowl gliding past. Her work is mostly in porcelain, her hand painted Artist’s brush pots and black and white ceramics are very popular.

Diane is also an experienced artist and calligrapher, and a Fellow of the Society of Botanical Artists. These disciplines also inspire her ceramics, and after a recent course at West Dean, she started throwing small porcelain bottles and hand painting them with monochrome botanical and natural history subjects.

Diane has exhibited her ceramics at a number of local exhibitions, and has taken part in Surrey Artists’ Open Studios for several years, showing both ceramics and artwork.
