Woking College art students will take over The Lightbox gallery and museum once again this summer, with the return of their annual Art & Design Show. From 28 June – 8 July 2018, The Lightbox will be filled with art, photography, textiles and design by the next generation of young artists.
Visiting The Lightbox will become an immersive experience, with contemporary and experimental works bursting out of the Upper Gallery into the Studio and across the mezzanine levels. Visitors will be inspired by the talent and innovation displayed by students at the start of their creative endeavours.
The students are involved in every stage of arranging and installing the exhibition, giving them invaluable hands-on professional experience in a gallery. Works from the A Level Textiles, Photography, Graphics Design, Fine Art, Product Design, CTEC, L2, L3 Art and Design courses will all feature.
Emma Hobbs, Head of Art & Design at Woking College, said “I am exceptionally proud of the effort and achievement of our students this year. It has been a joy to watch them develop as accomplished young artists and designers. Their work displays a genuine creative journey, great innovation, imagination and creativity. Our student’s engagement with their subject, hard work and determination to succeed is clearly evident in the outstanding work they have produced.”
Heather Thomas, Learning & Engagement Manager, said “Woking College have been coming to The Lightbox to showcase their students work for over ten years, and every year they produce work that potentially could be even better than the year before. The exhibition is always very popular and enables our visitors to see what the budding artists and designers that attend the college can do.”
The Lightbox is dedicated to collaborating with local schools and colleges to provide opportunities for young people. This relationship with Woking College gives the students the chance to exhibit their work publicly and gain an understanding of how galleries operate. The exhibition will be on show at The Lightbox from 28 June – 8 July 2018, entrance is free of charge and donations are welcome.
