Woking College students have been exhibiting their artwork at an annual show at The Lightbox since it opened ten years ago, and will make a welcome return from 29 June – 9 July 2017. This exhibition will present the next generation of talented young artists from the local college making a start in their field, providing the students with their first experience of exhibiting in a professional, award-winning gallery.
The student showcase will feature works from Woking College’s A Level Textiles, Photography, Applied Arts, Graphics, Fine Art, Product Design, CTEC, L2, L3 Art and Design courses, taking inspiration from a variety of themes. Not only are the works displayed created by the students, but they are involved in every stage of arranging and installing the exhibition, giving them invaluable hands-on gallery experience.
Four artworks by students at previous shows have had the honour of being purchased by The Ingram Collection of Modern British and Contemporary Art. The collection, which is owned by Woking-born serial entrepreneur and philanthropist Chris Ingram, is made up of over 650 works, and is in high demand for loans to museums and galleries for exhibitions across the country.
Emma Hobbs, Head of Art at Woking College, said “The end of year show is an excellent opportunity for our students to showcase their talent and ability at this wonderful venue. Our students engagement with their subject, hard work and determination to succeed is clearly evident is the exceptional work they have produced. I am very proud of their achievements and successes and the hard work of my team in supporting and inspiring them on their journey to becoming young artists.”
Heather Thomas, Senior Learning & Engagement Officer at The Lightbox, commented “The students and tutors work extremely hard every year to produce work that potentially could be even better than the year before. The students are able to curate and hang their own work, enabling them to learn vital skills for their future careers. The exhibition is always very popular and enables our visitors to see what the budding artists and designers of Woking College can do.”
The Woking College exhibition will be on show at The Lightbox gallery and museum from 29 June – 9 July 2017, entrance is free of charge and donations are welcome.
